Welcome 2024 Roland Park Swimmers!

Get excited for the 2024 Swim Team Season!

Mark your calendars for June 5th thru July 15th.
Full practice and meet schedule to follow.

We are looking forward to another fun and successful season building our swimming skills and participating with other area pools in a series of swim meets.

Swimmers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to join – “helping hands” are provided for our youngest (age 6 and under) swimmers. We strongly encourage that swimmers ages 7 and above should be able to swim at least one lap unassisted and have passed the deep water test. We will work to improve their technique, but the swim team is not swimming lessons.

For any questions please feel free to email, RPSwimteam@gmail.com

We will have a Roland Park Swim Team store account with SwimOutlet.com at  http://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/rolandparkswimteam.  Uniforms are highly encouraged but not mandatory.

Objectives

Inter-age group objectives:

  • Increase comfort in the water and strengthen independent swimming skills.
  • Foster a community in which healthy and positive competition is encouraged.
  • Teach sportsmanship and proper sportsmanlike conduct.

6 and Unders

  • Objectives:
    • Establish a basic comfort in entering and exiting the water independently.
    • Introduce the basic formal strokes of Freestyle and Breaststroke.
  • End of the season goals:
    • Each swimmer will be able to tread water for at least 45 seconds.
      • A good lifeguard should be able to recognize a drowning victim and implement the Emergency Action Protocol in 30 seconds. Establishing comfort in treading water for more than this time decreases the possibility of a drowning related accident.
    • Each swimmer will be able to cross the diving well in both Freestyle and Breaststroke respectively.
    • Each swimmer, using their preferred stroke, will be able to cross the well and return to the side in which they started without stopping, (like a 50 in the diving well).

7-8s

  • Objectives:
    • Enhance core strokes (Freestyle and Breastroke) to the intermediate level.
    • Introduce complex strokes (Backstroke and Butterfly).
  • End of the season goals:
    • Each swimmer will be able to swim a 25 of Freestyle, Breaststroke, and their choice of either Butterfly/Backstroke without stopping.
    • Each swimmer will be able to tread for at least a minute.
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a dive entrance into the pool.

9-10s

  • Objectives:
    • Bring all four strokes to the intermediate level.
    • Introducing the flip-turn.
  • End of season goals:
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a 50 Freestyle and a 25 of each other stroke without stopping.
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a racing dive entry.
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a flip turn transition.

11+

  • Objectives:
    • Bring all strokes to the intermediate/advanced level.
    • Master the flip turn and stroke transitions.
  • End of season goals:
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a 50 Freestyle with a flip-turn transition without stopping.
    • Each swimmer will be able to complete a 25 of Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly without stopping.
    • 80% of swimmers will be able to complete a 100 IM.
